Peter Hayden, for whom the town of Haydenville is named and owner of the Haydenville Mining and Manufacturing Company was a devout Methodist who believed a church was necessary for this new community. In 1870 the original Haydenville church was built on a hill overlooking the town. It was a white frame church, 30 feet wide and 40 feet long. The church had three row of seating. It was originally called Haydenville Chapel.
The first pastor was Rev. David Smith. There were 12 members in 1870.
The time came when the church outgrew the small white frame church and needed a larger facility. In 1892, the H.M.& M. Company  donated land for the current church. The Haydenville Mining and Manufacturing Company donated 90% of the construction costs to build the new church.  Construction began in 1883 with the cornerstone being laid on May 28, 1892 The cornerstone contains gold, a Bible, a Sunday school paper, and a local newspaper. Masons were brought in from Chicago and hand-chiseled the locally made bricks. The entire cost of the church was almost $8,000. Members held services in the Odd Fellows Hall while this new church was being built.
In the fall of 1883, the old church which was then being used as a school was destroyed by fire. On Sunday, April 9, 1893, Dr. D.H. Moore, editor of the Western Christian Advocate dedicated the new church. There were 63 members at this time. The pastor at this time was J.P. Gordan who served from 1883 to 1897. .
Other milestones are as follows: The first couple married in the church were Mr. & Mrs. Charles Anthony. Peter Hayden's daughter, Mrs. J.O. Reamy donated the church bell which when installed was the largest church bell in the country. In addition to worship services, the church became the center of activity for the town with residents enjoying ice cream socials and potluck dinners. Eventually the church joined the United Methodist Church denomination. Through the years the church continued to serve and minister to the residents of Haydenville. Vacation Bible Schools, Christmas programs, and other church events were always well attended.
In 2023, the church disaffiliated from the United Methodist denomination and partnered with Ebenezer Baptist Church to become a satellite church. On Sunday mornings the congregation has worship music at the church and then watches the Ebenezer preaching via live stream. One goal of the partnership is to better minister to Haydenville and surrounding communities. This has included an outreach visitation to every home in town and family fun days at the church. Some other ministries have included starting Sunday school classes for children and adults and an after-school Bible club for children.
The church has also undergone some renovations including adding a nursery. The church will also had new signage installed, a new side entrance to the church and landscaping done around the church.   We look forward to all that the Lord has in store for our church and the opportunities to share the life-changing hope of the gospel and invite you to join us on this great adventure!
